SCK CEN is one of the largest research institutions in Belgium with over 70 years of experience in nuclear research and technology. More than 850 employees work every day on the development of peaceful applications of radioactivity. 

The research activities of SCK CEN focus on three major themes: innovative nuclear systems, nuclear waste management and decommissioning, and decisive cancer control. SCK CEN is recognized worldwide and shares its knowledge through numerous publications and training courses, thus preserving this pool of exceptional competencies.

During the AstroCardia project, SKC CEN is responsible for creating a mature human heart-on-chip in a self-powered cassette and inducing cardiac aging through exposure to a simulated space environment (microgravity and radiation).
